Man I'm all dusty and dirty from the desert. I need to go take a shower. But before I do.
Me and my family ended up going to El Mirage. I guess the name might not be familiar, but I'm willing to bet that anybody who has ever watched TV has seen it at least once. It's the place where they do all those speed runs in the cars that go faster than the speed of sound and where they tape all the movie parts where people are just dumped in what seems like the middle of nowhere. (you know, the gang movies and the like).
The point is, it's a gigantic wasteland/highway. It used to be a gigantic lake and now its a huge flat area of packed clay spanning about 10 miles in length and 5 in width. All this packed clay is pretty much there for one thing: speed and fun. I swear, when I'm in college with my pimped out ride, the first thing I'm gonna do with my tuner homies is go out to el mirage and spend a day just drifting and dragging out there. It's all offroad, so it's legal to go however fast you want and drive however reckless you want, but it's also flatter than most of the freeways in lovely Orange County.
Unfortunately, motorcycles dont enjoy the drifting benefits that cars do. All I could pretty much do on my 400 (my motorcycle) was go really fast. I'd say I did about 80 with the wind (because it only felt like 20 in 60mph+ winds) and half that against the wind (because it felt like I was doing 100 -- and it hurt like hell with the dust in my face and my clothes slamming against my body). But going fast is only a momentary thrill. I traveled back and forth about 2 or 3 times and got bored and pretty much spent the rest of the weekend reading "Native Son", which is an outside reading book for my english class. Luckily, it's not a bad book and I enjoyed myself for the most part.
The other cool thing about El Mirage is that there is an unquenchable supply of dust out there. Well, it's cool when you're riding because you can chase sand-tornados/dustdevils/whateveryouwannacallthem. But when you're reading and you get enveloped in a sand tornado, it's not so fun, as you have to close your eyes and bury your face in your shirt so you can breathe. But that didnt happen too often, so dont feel bad (as if you would =P).
When my family and I got back home 4 hours ago, we found some huge holes all over our yard. Apparently the people that are doing consruction on our front yard have gotten their asses into gear. Now I'm scared to even drive my car up my driveway because doing so is essentially going offroading, something that FWD cars are not good at. At all. I did manage to get my dad's truck stuck in a hole while I was driving around, and we spent a fun half hour digging a ramp to get the damn thing out. I shoulda taken a picture, but I didnt. Sorry.
That's it.
